Meeting with Ñaymlap
Chotuna Huaca
November 24, 2004
Legend tells that in ancient times a leader of high value and talent named Ñaylamp arrived to this lands by sea, along with his wife Ceterni, concubines and officers of his court. They all disembark at the mouth of a river called Faquisllanga. Half a league ahead, Ñaymlap sent his people to build a temple which they named Chot; in it they placed an idol that represented the image of their chief. It was made of green stone and they called it Llampallec, that means figure or statue of Ñaymlap.
This was an encounter between the two descendants of the Muchik and their past.

Taki Ongoy
Museum of the Nation
July 27, 2002
440 years ago, the faithful of the indigenous movement Taki Ongoy secretly met at different huacas in throughout the country, to invoke the Apus and the spirits of their ancestors. They danced and sung with the music of their powerful musical instruments, until they reached higher states of beings and went into trance. Fro this experience they came back spiritually stronger and with their believes and habits strengthened, which were so violently fought against by the invaders.
Their leader was Juan Chocne, of whom it is said had the ability to soar through the skies with the power of the sound of the trumpets and pututos. Next to him the movement was lead by 2 women that called themselves Saint Mary and Mary Magdalene.
For us to celebrate this Taki ONgoy is to go deeper into our roots, our cultural values, return to our Apus, get closer to our mother earth and above all it´s a time to adventure through music, tale and dance get inside us and fortify our spirit, to find that inner strength that makes un invincible, incorruptibles, able to create our own lives, to weave our own fabric, weaving at the same time with everyone else, this way making the great fabric of the universe.
“Untying the knots of my own weft, I´m helping to untie the knots of the weft of the universe.”
“If you touch a flower….. you´re touching a star”.
In this concert insruments from Old Peru were used, next to contemporary ones, making a dialog of cultures and times.
